The AMOR Wellness Center hosted a Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway and Wellness Fair, helping 500 students get ready for the school year with free backpacks, school supplies, health screenings, and vaccines.
This event aimed to ease the stress of the back-to-school season for families and bring the community of Mendota together for an afternoon of fun. Students left with backpacks full of school supplies, along with the vaccines and health exams required to attend school.
Parents didn’t leave empty-handed either—they were entered in raffles, and the first 100 to receive a health screening walked away with a free $20 gift card. Additionally, 21 community partners set up booths to share valuable information on local resources and services available to families.
For many parents, the start of the school year can bring financial strain, especially when buying school supplies and accessing medical care for their children. This event offered much-needed relief, providing both students and parents with less to worry about as classes begin.
Binational of California and Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria led the efforts to provide backpacks, school supplies, and freshly grilled hot dogs, while Centro La Familia and UCSF Fresno offered vaccines and mobile health services. The AMOR team also added to the day’s festivities by providing refreshing paletas, adding a sweet treat to the mix.
As families left with their back-to-school haul, it was clear that the event had made a real difference for the children of Mendota. We want to give a huge thank you to all our community partners who came together to make this day a success and to support our local youth.
